“Sanctions are coming”: Donald Trump on Friday hijacked the iconic “Game of Thrones” series to welcome the upcoming reinstatement of sanctions against Tehran, lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, which Washington has since been removed.
On his Twitter account, the US President posted – without further comment – a poster showing him walking, wearing a blue night suit and red tie, his head pointed to the side, with the words “Sanctions are coming” in reference to” Winter is coming “, title of the first episode of the popular series.
The poster states that these sanctions will arrive on November 5th. Another reference to “GoT”, the “O” are crossed by three vertical bands.

A subtle answer, referring to the imaginary language spoken by Queen Daenerys Targaryen and hers.
This “meme” clearly did not sit well with two stars of the series.
“Yuck,” Sophie Turner simply replied on Twitter.
Her little sister in GoT, Arya, played by Maisie Williams, retweeted the photo of the president, preceded by a “Not today.”
Earlier in the day, the United States had formally confirmed that it would restore Monday, November 5, all sanctions lifted under the agreement signed between Iran and the major powers to prevent the Islamic Republic to acquire the atomic bomb.
A first package of punitive measures had already been reimposed in August.
HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” which will be completed next year after the eighth season, is the most successful fiction series in the history of the Emmy Awards, the American television awards. It has been a huge success around the world, and inspired by many fans.
In mid-October, Indonesian President Joko Widodo had referred to Westeros, the name of the ruthless world in which the “Iron Throne” unfolds, commenting on a global economic situation clouded by trade tensions.
